Great leaders are not just born, they are made
Imagine the impact you could have on the world as a leader if you held legendary status. You'd have the power to inspire change, to motivate others to be their best, and to leave a lasting legacy for themselves.
You see contrary to some opinions, I believe that great leaders are not just born, they are made. It takes hard work, dedication, and a willingness to learn and grow. Then, as with everything worth doing, the rewards are immeasurable.
To become any kind of leader takes belief in yourself and your vision. It takes confidence in your abilities and courage around taking risks. Great leaders then surround themself with a diverse group of people who challenge and support them, and are always open to feedback and new ideas.
Richly celebrate success and quickly learn from failure
To be better than great though is the subject of this blog. To achieve the status of 'Legend'. Legendary leaders are authentic and true to themselves. They are genuine and transparent, they show empathy and compassion, and they lead in a way that shows humility, purpose and a reason why. Teams love these qualities because it empowers individuals to take ownership of their work and encourages them to reach their full potential to richly celebrate success and quickly learn the lessons from failure.
This purpose and team ethic means that the legendary never give up. Legendary leaders face adversity and challenges head-on, they never lose sight of their vision. They are resilient and persistent, always pushing forward towards their goals.
Take Steve Jobs, Co-founder of Apple: known for his relentless pursuit of perfection and his ability to inspire his team to push the boundaries of what was possible. His charismatic leadership style and vision for the future motivated employees to work tirelessly to create groundbreaking products such as the iPhone and iPad. Crushing Blackberry and setting the new benchmark in handheld devices.
What about Oprah Winfrey, the media mogul: she has an ability to connect with people on a deep emotional level that has made her one of the most successful and influential business leaders of our time. She has built a media empire by motivating and inspiring her team to create high-quality content that resonates with audiences around the world.
Then of course Richard Branson, Founder of the Virgin Group: famous for an innovative and unconventional leadership style that has helped him build a diverse portfolio of businesses, from airlines to music labels. His motto of have fun, make a profit, and make a difference has inspired his team to think creatively and take risks, resulting in some of the most successful and iconic brands in the world.
Also we must not overlook the lesser name called but equally legendary Indra Nooyi, the former CEO of PepsiCo: her transformational leadership style helped PepsiCo through a period of significant growth and change. She motivated her team to think beyond short-term profits and focus on long-term sustainability and social responsibility, resulting in a more diverse and inclusive company culture.
Each of these legendary business leaders has achieved remarkable results by inspiring and motivating their teams to reach for the stars and achieve their full potential. Their stories serve as a powerful reminder of the impact that strong, visionary leadership can have on an organisation and its people.
So, if there is a call to action here - it is to understand your value, embrace your inner greatness and let it shine. We can't all be legends of the game, but we can all make a difference in our part of the World and leave an impression for generations to come, however large or small that population is.
